The Yr Hen Orsaf – JD Wetherspoon in Aberystwyth, Wales, is a remarkable pub housed in a historic building of the former Great Western Railway station from 1924. As part of the well-known Wetherspoon chain, it combines the charm of a traditional British pub with a modern, accessible atmosphere. Its location directly at the train station makes it particularly convenient for passengers looking for a quick refreshment after a long journey.

Pub with traditional British cuisine

The interior design of Yr Hen Orsaf is impressive: the spacious area utilizes the architecture of the old station with high ceilings and a light-filled glass roof, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. Notably, the covered area at the former platform, now serving as seating, gives the pub a distinct character. Historical details like murals and information about the history of Aberystwyth enhance the experience and make it more than just a place to eat and drink. Outside, there is a licensed outdoor area perfect for milder days, while televisions inside show sports broadcasts, creating a sociable atmosphere for fans.

For something spicier, the Chicken Katsu Curry provides a modern twist with its creamy sauce and rice. The bar also entices with a selection of Real Ales, including local varieties like Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose, which delight beer enthusiasts. For dessert, sweet options such as the Chocolate Brownie round off the meal with their rich texture.

we went for some lunch and in my opinion it was the best Wetherspoons lunch for a long time. It was cheap but fantastic so we will be going back to that one in Aber.

Ordered mixed grill. The meat tasted and looked as though it came of the heal of a man's shoe. Absolutely awful. Weather's pools used to be the place to go. That's me finished

It was quite busy when we went. We ordered via the app and despite asking for no ice in any of the drinks, 2 of the 4 arrived with ice. The app gives you waiting times for food and drinks, but we waited longer than those times. There is plenty of seating, both indoors and outside. It is wheelchair and child friendly. Food was good and reasonably priced.
